Summer – We made it to summer break! I hope all students get a little break from the constant canvas updates and zoom meetings. Many have ask me about the summer band schedule. I am still waiting on guidance from the AISD fine arts office. The UIL has released restrictions and expectations for all marching bands in the state. As of now, our next scheduled event is parade practice at the end of June. We will most likely schedule sectionals before that if we are allowed to by our fine arts director of AISD. I am very hopeful that we will have our big marching band camp at the end of July and beginning of August. I have attached my summer schedule as of today. I hope I can update it very soon with more details.
Instrument & Uniform Expectations – Since the district is mandating that students keep instruments and uniforms all summer, we need to make sure they are in working order for the fall. Keep your tuxedos and dresses hanging in a closet. Instruments should be stored in a cool and dry place. If you have any issues with an instrument, Brook Mays Music in Arlington was providing free repairs during Covid-19. I do not know the details, but you might give them a call. Otherwise, Rivard Brothers Instrument Specialists are highly recommended professional instrument repairmen. They are big supporters of the Lamar band as Dana Rivards son’s both graduated from Lamar and the band program.
Virtual Banquet – I hope everyone enjoyed our virtual banquet. It was a lot of fun and most important, it was great to acknowledge so many great students. Special thanks to Nathalia Simon, Haya Alrahis, Karla Flores, Mr. Riley, Mr. Kelly, Miss Midori, Mr. Hagman, Mrs. Howerton, and everyone who chipped in to make it a great experience.
Seniors – Thank you for your service to the Lamar Band program! You will continue to get these emails a bit longer. Once I “roll up” charms, you will be alumni in my system and no longer receive my emails. If you want to continue to keep up with the band program, let me know. I am considering a Lamar Band alumni Band App page. We will be in contact going forward. I’m not done with you yet. We are working on a possible picnic once we are cleared to do so. Thank you to Karla Flores (alumni) for putting together the “senior of the day” project! We are finishing up the project fairly soon and posting a senior every day.
