All-Region – The TMEA Region 5 Honor Band Auditions are this week. Many 10-12 grade students will have a phase 1 audition on Tuesday for brass & percussion and Thursday for woodwinds. The phase 2 and 9th grade auditions are on Saturday. The attached pdf has very extensive details for the audition process. Parents and students should read this document if the student is signed up to audition. We are excited for the 40+ Lamar band students who will represent us at the region audition!
Wind Symphony Auditions – Wednesday, Dec 4th, during class or 3:00PM to 6:00PM, the 10-12 grade Lamar Band students will audition for the Wind Symphony. This is our annual spring semester band placement audition. The freshmen do not audition as they will be in the 9th grade band during the spring. Students will perform the all-region etudes that we have worked on all semester as well as a small sight reading excerpt.
Football Season – With the loss last week, the football and marching band season is officially over. It is time to transition to the next phase of the academic year. It is time for us to clean up the band room and store the marching season only equipment. We will be asking for a little extra help in the near future.
Inventory and Clean Up – The band staff will be asking student leaders and aspiring future leaders to step up and help clean the band room and help with inventory of band room equipment. Every student is required to take home their blue water jugs, flip books, and any other marching season items they will not need.
Concert Week – The week of Dec 9-13 is a busy week of concerts. Monday = symphony orchestra, Tuesday = all concert bands, Wednesday = Shack band, Thursday=Nichols band, Thursday & Friday= Jazz orchestra tour. To finish it all, on Dec 16 is the famous Choir & Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert at Lamar Baptist. We hope everyone can come out to our concerts and support our awesome students.
Drumline Update – Symphonic Band percussion sectional this Wednesday 3:00pm-4:30pm. If you took a keyboard home over the break, make plans to have it returned on Monday. Keep track of your busy schedule and make sure you are confident with the fall concert music.
Jazz Update – Make sure you are working on the holiday jazz charts!
Winterguard Update – Make plans to be productive between the end of school and the beginning of practice. If you must stay on campus, you are to find a classroom to study in, study in the library on Tuesday, or do homework in the band room if it is available. We would prefer that students leave campus during this downtime but we understand that transportation to and from school can be difficult.
