Springtown – Yesterday was a long busy day for The Pride of Lamar. There was unfortunately tears of disappointment when we missed making finals by 1. The top 10 of 19 make it to finals and we missed it by just two rank points. It is always our goal to have our best performance to set us up for success and a good score from the judge panel. One judge did have us 7th, but another had us 15. The staff spoke with the students regarding the outcome and we know what went well and what we need to adjust. On a more positive note, the drumline and color guard competed in separate standstill contests. Both the color guard and drumline came in 4th overall! The staff is very proud of these students. I want to give a big thank you to all the parents that helped chaperone, move equipment and feed the students. We have a great team of boosters and volunteers and the support is greatly appreciated.
Extra Parent Help – With eligibility hitting us very hard, we are 29 students down from where we started the season. We realized Saturday that we need more people to move the props and percussion equipment onto the field for performances. If you can help, we would greatly appreciate it. To get a practice run, please try to join us at Monday evenings rehearsal at about 5:30pm. We will do a run through at the end of practice. We will need this extra help at UIL Tuesday and BOA Saturday.
Rehearsals – We are 1 short rehearsals until UIL and only 3 until BOA. These are critical practices. Tomorrow, Monday the 14th, is a holiday, however we have an important rehearsal since it is the day before UIL and a special guest clinician will be in town from South Carolina. I wish we didn’t have a student holiday the day before UIL, but I don’t make those calendars. We only have three weeks left of our competition season. After that, practices will be only once a week to prepare for the football games.
Itineraries – The attached file has the itineraries for the next couple of performances. Please read them over. Tuesday is during the school day and early evening. Friday we come home after halftime of the football game. Saturday is almost a 24 hour band day! 3:45am call time and back after midnight.
