Friday and Saturday – I hope everyone got some rest last night and today. The Pride of Lamar made the band staff proud this weekend. Everyone stepped up and did their job. Not just the performance on the field or in the stands, but with all the equipment we have this year. I also had a proud moment Saturday when another band director told me that the Lamar band kids were very supportive and positive to his group as they marched to rehearsal, followed by another director saying, “yeah, those Lamar band kids are a class act”. That means so much to me and I’m sure all the parents reading this. Keep it up Lamar Band!
As for the competitive show, we had a solid very contest run. We learned a lot about performing in that big stadium and with crazy wind! The contest had many great bands, so while is is disappointing that we missed our goal of making finals, it is good to be competing with so many great bands. The staff is already deep in the planning of our march to Springtown, UIL, and BOA Waco!
Here is a video for students to study before our next performance. Thanks Mr. Finley for the great recording! https://youtu.be/2K8lz-MJkD0
Dean Corey – Monday, tomorrow, is the Dean Corey Band Extravaganza! Students will need to bring their grey performance shirt (washed please), long black socks, viper marching shoes, and shorts for under the uniform to school. Dinner should be ready at 4:00pm. Jason’s Deli was ordered but if you missed that date when you placed your orders for the season, we will have some hot dogs available. Students will not have enough time to leave campus or walk to Walgreens or Kroger. We perform at 8:00pm at Maverick Stadium. See you there! Share on facebook: The 37th Annual Dean Corey Marching Band Extravaganza takes place this Monday, Sept 30, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door and will benefit the Arlington Music Enrichment Program. The show finale will include all Arlington ISD bands along with the UTA band unified in one performance. Event takes place at the UTA Maverick Stadium, 1307 W Mitchell St. Arlington, 76019. See you there!
Rehearsals – This week we will practice on Wednesday because we have Dean Corey on Monday. With UIL only two weeks away, we can’t afford to miss rehearsal time. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be learning the last few sets of the show. For students who become ineligible due to failing grades, attendance at rehearsal is still required, however, we encourage those students to go in for tutoring every day that the teachers are available.
Homecoming – There will be many distractions this week as we celebrate the LHS homecoming football game. The band and drill team will perform before the game at 6:30pm. Please get there extra early to watch the band perform the entire show! At halftime, there will be a ceremony for homecoming court. After the game, student council is having a homecoming dance. We encourage all band students to attend. It will be in the C gym from 9:30-11:30.

Uniform – Friday we wear the full marching uniform for the first time. Student must bring to school their black socks, shorts, and grey performance shirt. The recent shoe order will be delivered by Friday. The following are examples of the shorts and socks expected.

Mens shorts – https://tinyurl.com/y3splvvq
Students must also wear long black socks – https://tinyurl.com/y3xb3b54
Passing Classes – The progress reports are out and the directors are running reports a couple times a week to see how eligibility looks. Students and parents should use the self serve service to monitor grades daily. If you don’t have this set up yet, please do so immediately. https://www.aisd.net/students/student-self-serve/
Band objectives have been assigned for this first six weeks and some of it is past due. Students will have some opportunities in class to take care of these “pass-offs”. Some of the assignments can be recorded on Charms and submitted electronically. If a grade is a zero in the band gradebook, this simply means the student missed the due date. It can still be pass-off before the end of the six weeks. Students that are proactive with their time management and personal calendars will be most successful.

SAT & ACT test dates to avoid – Band students must plan around the fall marching contests for their standardized tests. We have a marching contest on the Nov. 2nd SAT test date. DO NOT TEST THIS DATE! The national test dates are on the band calendar. Please make sure and avoid conflicts. To learn all the other options for testing, google search the ACT or SAT test dates.
