Band Camp – Monday our 2019 marching season begins! Practices will be at Nichols the first week from 7:30am-5:00pm. There is a lunch break and all students are required to stay on campus. AISD will provide free lunch to all band students. If you wish, you may bring a sack lunch or have something delivered. The directors will be on campus during lunch and we strongly encourage each student to eat a big healthy lunch every day.
As for the other weeks of camp, we are at the mercy of the construction company at Lamar on when we will move back. We are tentatively scheduled to return to Lamar on Monday August 5th. The original band camp schedule has had some changes due to Mr. Hagman’s teacher meetings and professional development schedule. Those have been updated in my new and improved band camp schedule. Every practice is mandatory for all Lamar Band students. Student summer jobs are not excused. Family vacations are excusable if a parent contacts a director ahead of time. However, students will be very far behind after missing any portion of these practices. We will have as many as 12 instructors teaching at one time during the camp. We have spent money to hire experts in marching, color guard, drumline, and brass/woodwind to train our students. The staff will assign primary performer spots based on ability and attendance. Students with a secondary performer spot will work to earn a primary spot. Every student will participate in every part of practice.
All brass and woodwind students should have part 1 of the show memorized when they arrive on July 29th. We will use that and marching evaluations to help determine the primary marcher spots in the show. All students will be learning the show, stand tunes, and more during the three weeks leading up to the first day of school.
Physicals – We are down to the wire with the new UIL physical requirement for marching band students. ALL Lamar Band students must have a physical on file with the LHS band directors by August 1st. Primary care physicians are the most preferred way to get a physical, but there are other options. CVS has cheap options from time to time. They also have a lot of good info about what to expect when you go to get a physical. https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/services/wellness-and-physicals/sports-physicals/N-d8ZbtoqZd5
Forms – All band forms are attached in one PDF. Many of them can be typed and printed. The most critical is that the medical authorization form be notarized. You must have an ID and wait to sign when you are with the notary. We will have notaries at band registration on Saturday Aug 3rd.
Band fees – The activity fee is $300. Band activity fees can be paid online at https://goo.gl/voPwBw
Drumline Update – The drumline had a very productive week of rehearsals. They learned all of the first movement of the show! Great job Lamar percussionists!
Jazz Update – Practice your scales!
Color Guard Update – Remember to bring your water jugs to Saturday practices!
