Physicals – We are down to the wire with the new UIL physical requirement for marching band students. ALL Lamar Band students must have a physical on file with the LHS band directors by August 1st. I found this recently and if you don’t have a primary care physician, this is a great option to get the physical taken care of for free. https://www.trustedmedicalcenters.com/ also email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info. CVS also have cheap options as well. They have a lot of good info about what to expect when you go to get a physical. https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/services/wellness-and-physicals/sports-physicals/N-d8ZbtoqZd5

Drum Corps International – Next Tuesday, we are putting together an optional field trip to watch the DCI Mesquite – Drum & Bugle Corps show. https://www.dci.org/static/about-drum-corps-international
Tickets are $33 and due at Tuesday evenings rehearsal. We will take a bus at 4:00pm on Monday afternoon. Return after the show, approx. 11:30pm, depending on traffic and the end of the show time.
Forms – The band directors are almost finished with the handbook and forms for registration day. The most important form right now is the physical. Please take care of this now. Students without a complete physical on August 1st will not be allowed to practice outside.
Band Camp – We are about to start our 2019 band camp! Only two weeks from today we will be out in the sun working on the show. For the next two weeks, we strongly encourage all members of The Pride of Lamar to get outside and train your body to be ready for fun in the sun. Get some exercise every day and hydrate. Rehearsals are START at 7:30am and go until 5:30pm. We have an hour and a half lunch break in the middle of the day. We will learn most of the marching band show during the August camp.
All brass and woodwind students should have part 1 of the show memorized when they arrive on July 29th. We will use that and marching evaluations to help determine the primary marcher spots in the show. All students will be learning the show, stand tunes, and more during the three weeks leading up to the first day of school. We will have fun social activities organized by the student leaders and supported by the booster club and directors. If any parents would like to volunteer during the three weeks of camp, let me know. There may be a couple opportunities to assist the teaching staff.
Band fees – The activity fee is $300. More details coming soon. Band activity fees can be paid online at https://goo.gl/voPwBw
Drumline Update – Drumline camp is July 22-26. This a critical camp and where most of the music will be taught.
