Lamar Band Weekly Announcements 5/19/2019

End of the School Year – The end of the school year brings a tidal wave of emotion and stress. For me it is exciting to see the seniors finish up and move on at graduation. It is another kind of joy to see the alumni when they come back to visit. This week, I had the chance to attend a graduation party for a student who finished law school. Facebook informed me that another Lamar Band alumni just graduated medical school. I suppose it just puts it all in perspective. The stress is compounded this year with the renovations that start in just a week. This past Friday a big team of dedicated students helped move all the trophies, plaques, and pictures from the band room to a storage room for the summer. We made a lot of progress, but we still have to move EVERYTHING out of the band room before demolition starts on May 28. This week is busy with our concert, but as soon as that is done, it will be mostly focused on moving equipment. Students will have time to practice for auditions and to pass of objectives. The last 4 days of school will be held in the new instrumental ensemble room (1016).

Spring Concert – Tuesday is our spring concert at UTA in Irons Recital Hall, 7:00pm. See the attachment for details including a map of where to park on campus. We hope to see all of our band families and friends for our final band event of the school year.

Auditions – After our final concert, all we have left is the final exam. The audition packets have been handed out and students should already be working on them daily. The auditions will be held at Lamar in various rooms which will be posted. Students will be sign up for audition times with a monitor as they arrive to warm up. As auditions are blind, students should not talk to their judge about the auditions, but see another director with any issues.
